Institutional Engineering Projects
Interface has worked with institutional, federal government, and local government clients to design for new construction, renovations and remodels for a variety of building types, including offices, city halls, public safety buildings, maintenance shops, jails and juvenile detention, fire and police stations, and emergency dispatch/911 call centers.
For the Roseville Civic Center, in northern California, our teams had an interesting challenge: to simultaneously design for renovations and an addition to an existing building, in which the addition would wrap around two sides of the structure. The designers were challenged by mismatched floor elevations, and a need for all HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems to pass between the two structures.
In 2003, we also designed a renovation/remodel for the Oregon Department of Human Services, in which we converted what had been a "big-box" retail store into an energy-efficient and comfortable office environment, utilizing an innovative underfloor air distribution system.
In designing facilities that require heavy security, like the Police Forensics & Property Units' new facility in Eugene, Oregon, our teams have worked on access control and security systems, in addition to the required safety precautions necessary in the design of the mechanical and electrical systems.
For projects like the California Highway Patrol/CalTrans Regional Traffic Management Facility near Sacramento, with video monitoring for traffic snarls and a back-up emergency dispatch center, or the Emergency Coordination Facility/Armed Forces Reserve Center in Salem, Oregon, which houses functions for the State Patrol and the Oregon Military Department, and is the designated facility for state-wide coordination in cases of emergency, our teams had to design not only secure facilities, but facilities with systems to meet the needs of different departments and different functions within one building.
When designing for maintenance shops, however, the focus is on fume ventilation and waste management, like oil/water separators. Because we have such a wide range of these projects under our belt, we are prepared with the tools needed to create designs for your next project. |
