Hood River Middle School’s Music and Science Building (Opsis Architecture), the first net-zero energy public school in the country, is in the spotlight once again. Energy Trust of Oregon’s Path to Net-Zero featurette highlights the school and the integrated approach the design team used to reach this milestone (begins at the 15 minute mark). Providing MEP engineering, building technologies, fire/life safety, lighting, and energy services, Interface implemented numerous sustainable strategies, including a 35-kilowatt PV system, innovative heat recovery systems, displacement ventilation, rainwater harvesting system, radiant heating, and a geothermal ground loop.
