Wind, Sun, Sand & Salt... Not a Day at the Beach for Designers

2025 High Performance Buildings Educational Series

May 29, 2025

Interface invites you to attend the fourth installment of our 2025 High Performance Buildings Educational Series, Wind, Sun, Sand & Salt... Not a Day at the Beach for Designers, presented by Managing Principal Roger Frechette PE, LEED AP and Associate Principal Keith Pasma, PE, LEED AP BD+C, BCxP.

This webinar explores the unique challenges of designing building systems in coastal and island environments—where salt-laden air, high humidity, and extreme weather demand smarter, more resilient solutions. Learn how to apply ASHRAE best practices to create systems that stand up to the elements, optimize performance, and protect long-term investments.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Gain an understanding of what defines a costal climate from an energy code and mechanical design perspective
  2. Learn about common pitfalls and solutions for designing mechanical systems in coastal climates for both architects and engineers
  3. Learn about designing around extreme weather and seismic events common to costal and island locations
  4. Understand limitations of certain materials in coastal and island climates.
