Winter Break Recap

Jan 14, 2020

2019 marked a big and busy year for Interface, and the Managing Principals elected to offer staff the opportunity to take extended time off over the holidays. Interface offices were closed to clients from December 23rd through January 3rd. The closure allowed employees extra time to reflect, recharge and otherwise take advantage of their Winter Break.

I was able to spend the two weeks helping my church put on a three-day conference for about 1,300 people. I used the first week to design and set up conference ambient and stage lighting, and the second week I got to attend that conference. Without the two weeks off, it would have been a much more stressful and hectic time responding to emails at the end of each of the long days. Thank you Interface! - Wesley Lau PE, LEED AP, Associate Principal, Senior Electrical Engineer

Having family overseas, the extended break was a great time to visit my friends and family in Australia and the Philippines! Creating memories with them is always important and the extra time helped give me the opportunity to do so.
Kristina Santi LC, Assoc. IALD Associate, Senior Lighting Design

I traveled back to Germany to celebrate a beloved family member’s 80th birthday. Then, I spent Christmas Day in the Netherlands. I saw wild horses in North Holland’s dunes at dusk. We also took a stroll through downtown to admire the historic cheese market and the channels with their beautiful Christmas lights.Yvonne Chen, Mechanical Designer

Having the last two weeks off with one year closing and a new one start was great. My wife and I were able to take that freedom and go on a 2200 miles and 4 states road trip to visit friends and family. I was able to experience some amazing things over the two week break and I am very thankful for all of what Interface have done for me to make it happen. Kenny Anderson, Plumbing Designer

The year-end closure was such a blessing for me this year! My brother got married on New Year’s Eve and I was able to help out with all the last minute preparations without having to stress about work as well. Two weeks out of office was everything I needed to travel and see family, celebrate Christmas, be in a wedding, and recover from vacation before starting off 2020. Huge thanks to Interface and the leadership team for emphasizing employee wellness and implementing a great program. – Kate Jones EIT, Mechanical Designer

Two weeks off meant I got to spend quality time with my dog and my boyfriend up in the mountains. We stopped at a couple lesser known spots like Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon. Thankful for Interface for all the things it’s taught me plus a nice end of the year break to refresh. – Mary Vasquez PE, Mechanical Engineer

Interface is excited for 2020, and will continue to look for ways to embrace our core values and improve work-life balance for employees.
