Physical Education Complex
California State University Cal Maritime Academy
CSU Maritime Academy constructed a new Aquatic Facility and Physical Education Complex to replace the original center built in 1945.
The new Cal Maritime Academy Physical Education Complex — which includes a gymnasium, outdoor aquatics survival pool, offices, locker room, laundry facilities, conference rooms, and a multipurpose room — was designed with an emphasis on energy-efficiency.The center will rely on passive natural ventilation (using stack effect and cross ventilation), displacement and demand-based ventilation; energy management strategies for temperature controls; lighting control systems; energy-efficient fluorescent and LED lighting; occupancy sensors; and daylighting/dimming controls. The combined strategies will result in a facility that uses 20 percent less energy than California Energy Code Title 24 requirements.
