Interface Engineering provided MEP and Fire Alarm/Suppression services for this mixed-use church/multi-family residential community on North Beauregard Street in Alexandria, Virginia. The redevelopment was completed as two separate programs – an affordable rental housing component, constructed and owned/maintained by Arlington Housing Corporation (AHC) and a new church which was designed and constructed in coordination with AHC, but owned and maintained by the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
The eight-story multifamily podium-style building with 113 dwelling units was constructed on a site donated by a church to further their mission to support the creation of affordable housing. The multifamily building has a two-story community room and multi-purpose room with floor to ceiling glass walls. The building achieved Gold Certification by EarthCraft Virginia.
The new 5,000 square foot church was designed to meet the community’s worship and programming needs and includes a 1400-sf worship space, the Nave, with sloped ceilings from 20 feet to 32 feet high, an adjoining Sacristy; a multipurpose gathering space, the Parish Hall, with a 16-foot-high ceiling; a Nursery/Classroom; a residential-grade kitchen and food storage pantry; two offices; restrooms and miscellaneous storage and mechanical spaces.
Mechanical systems are a combination of a single package unit located outside the building at the north side (in an areaway created by a site retaining wall) and several mini-split units to handle the smaller spaces. Lighting fixtures are high-efficiency LED and fluorescent type fixtures. Plumbing fixtures include low-flow faucets and fixtures.
