Shriners Hospital provides no charge healthcare for thousands of children across the United States in a family-centered environment. The Portland location, which specializes in pediatric orthopedic care, is expanding and renovating their existing 1980s-era building to fulfill their goal of providing services to more children.
The expansion includes a three-story, addition over the existing north parking area, which like the rest of the hospital sits on the east slope of Markham Hill. Due to the steep hillside location — the buildover which is essentially a building on top of a building — and the need to keep the hospital functioning, this has been a challenge both structurally and mechanically.
