Interface Engineering provided mechanical engineering, plumbing, and fire/life safety and energy services to the City College of San Francisco’s Performing Arts Education Center. The building consists of two levels which includes: a main theater, recital hall, studio theater with support spaces (a scene shop, dressing rooms, costume shop, storage, recording and broadcasting rooms). The building also consists of large acting rehearsal/practice rooms, choral room, staff music library, catering and concession areas with AV support and storage spaces. The center will host teaching and support spaces which will include classrooms and administrative offices.
A highlight of the building will be the 75 ft. Diego Rivera mural which will be situated in the main lobby entrance and will be supported by a museum quality HVAC and fire protection design. The building will also have a green roof incorporated into the design which will improve storm water management, conserve building energy, reduce heat island effect and provide urban habitat for wildlife.
