Interface Engineering was the LEED and sustainability consultant, peer MEP engineer, and commissioning agent for this major airport terminal modernization. The new design aims to make travel more efficient, but also focuses on improving water and energy use. Process loads will be reduced with the use of high efficient elevators, motion sensor escalators, and occupancy sensor convenience outlets.
Interface consulted on several sustainable strategies including rainwater harvesting from the roof and greywater for toilet flushing, sensor operated plumbing fixtures, energy recovery to pre-treat outdoor ventilation air and reduce the heating and cooling load of outdoor air, solar energy to provide hot water to restroom lavatories, and thermal imaging to compare new construction improvements with the previous construction.
